ABOUT US

Camp Phoenix Summer Camp History

Camp Phoenix was established in 2006 through the North Smithfield Recreation Department.

The camp was created to provide a traditional day long summer camp experience for the children of North Smithfield.  Camp Phoenix has expanded its enrollment capacity to allow for children from all communities to attend the camp.

We look forward to extending our family.

We are hoping to make the camp a place where children can create life-long friendships.

The SSD Philosophy

In an age dominated by "specialty" camps, Camp Phoenix strives to offer campers the joy of a traditional summer camp experience. We take pride in taking the effort to reach each camper by offering multiple activity choices in a non-competitive environment that allows all children to succeed.

Our philosophy:

S=Safety. Attendance is taken several times a day. Counselors are trained on several safety issues and are certified in First Aid/CPR. Campers are not allowed to go anywhere without a "buddy." A Director is ALWAYS present.

S=Socialization. Campers are grouped in "Flocks" during attendance times and eat with their flock at lunch. Flocks are grouped by grade. Counselors encourage campers to socialize through various flock activities. Campers also interact with campers of all ages during activity periods.

D=Decision Making. Campers select their activity and have the opportunity to try new things without being forced!

CAMP PHOENIX

THEME SONG

Verse 1:

Say you don’t know me, or recognize my face

Say you don’t know what school, that they go to

Scared on your first day, not sure of what comes next

Too many mosquitos, Eating up my legs

Chorus:

Tek plays the music, Listen to the bugspray song

Don’t you remember

We built Camp Phoenix

We built Camp Phoenix on acorn trail

We Built Camp Phoenix

We built Camp Phoenix on acorn trail

Built Camp Phoenix

We built Camp Phoenix on acorn trail

Verse 2:

Someone’s always playing, dodgeball in the gym

Who cares there’s always archery, or arts and crafts

We just want to dance here, villains stole the stage

They call in the heroes, throw them in a cage

Chorus:

Tek plays the music, Listen to the bugspray song

Don’t you remember

We built Camp Phoenix

We built Camp Phoenix on acorn trail

We Built Camp Phoenix

We built Camp Phoenix on acorn trail

Built Camp Phoenix

We built Camp Phoenix on acorn trail

Interlude:

Its just another Monday, all the staff wears black

Music on the speaker, ohhhhhhh, then we just lost the beat

Verse 3:

Where is the ice cream, is it at the nest

Who beat the camp records, and tried so hard

Don’t tell us you can’t succeed, cause we’re just working hard

Looking for new campers, coming through your schools
