Where Summer Sparks Lifelong Friendships​

Founded in 2006 by the North Smithfield Recreation Department, Camp Phoenix was created to provide a traditional, full-day summer camp experience for children in North Smithfield. Over the years, we've expanded our enrollment to welcome campers from all communities, embracing an open enrollment policy that invites children from various backgrounds to join our camp family.​

Our philosophy:

In an age dominated by "specialty" camps, Camp Phoenix strives to offer campers the joy of a traditional summer camp experience. We take pride in taking the effort to reach each camper by offering multiple activity choices in a non-competitive environment that allows all children to succeed. ​

• S = Safety: We prioritize the well-being of our campers. Attendance is taken multiple times daily, counselors are trained in safety protocols and certified in First Aid/CPR, and campers always have a "buddy" when moving around the camp. A Director is always present to oversee activities.​

• S = Socialization: Campers are grouped into "Flocks" based on their grade level, promoting age-appropriate interactions during attendance times and lunch. Our counselors encourage socialization through various flock activities, while also facilitating interactions across different age groups during activity periods.​

• D = Decision Making: We empower campers to make choices about their daily activities, allowing them to explore new interests without pressure. This approach fosters independence and confidence in our campers.​

Open Enrollment: All Are Welcome

Camp Phoenix is proud to be an open enrollment camp. We welcome children entering Kindergarten through 7th grade from all communities, not just North Smithfield. Our inclusive approach ensures that every child has the opportunity to experience the magic of summer camp, regardless of their background.​phoenix

Activities and Programs

Our campers enjoy a variety of activities designed to cater to diverse interests:​

• Archery: Campers learn and perfect their shooting skills, progressing through levels as they improve.​phoenix

• Arts & Crafts: Creative projects aligned with weekly themes encourage artistic expression.​phoenix

• Athletics: Engaging games like dodgeball and the finger sword challenge promote physical activity and fun.​phoenix

• Performing Arts: Campers participate in dances, skits, and songs, showcasing their talents during weekly performances.​phoenix

• Water Wars: Held on Tuesdays and Fridays, these activities provide a refreshing break with various water-based games.​phoenix

• Engineering: Hands-on projects like bottle rockets and lava lamps stimulate curiosity and problem-solving skills.​phoenix

Campers choose their activities each day, fostering a sense of autonomy and allowing them to explore new interests in a supportive environment.​
